French decorating

This exquisite hand-made letter holder was made by a ceramicist in Cliousclat, my favorite village in the Drome Provencal.  Decorated with hand-modeled songbirds, each of which is looking in a slightly different direction and bears an individual facial expression (click on the '1' under the main photo to see a closeup of the birds).  They are so adorably lifelike that you expect them to take wing if you get too close.   Although it's meant to hold mail, it's almost too pretty for that.  I think I'd fill it with a bunch of dried flowers from the late summer garden.
