Hand-made by a Rive Gauche family atelier, this ceramic wall plaque is one in a series representing many different fruits and flowers in a herbarium style. Herbarium specimens are the pages of pressed plants, carefully labelled, that are maintained by universities to identify plants and record their habitats. This ceramic series is a decorative fantasy on that theme. Painstakingly appliquéed and hand-painted, each one represents a different plant on a natural, textured terracotta plaque.
Not meant to be botanically accurate representations, the
Collection Herbier are rather works of art to be appreciated for the interpretation of the artist. Perfect as a collection, they look splendid in groups. But an individual
herbier is charming in its own right. This one represents the iris, much loved in France for its flamboyant petals and rich colors.
A limited edition, each
herbier is signed by the artist. The colors are deep violet-blue with a touch of golden yellow and green on a natural terracotta background. The
herbier comes equipped with a wire hanger securely mounted on its back.
