Hand-made by a Rive Gauche family atelier, this ceramic wall plaque is one in a series representing many different fruits and flowers in a herbarium style. Herbarium specimens are the pages of pressed plants, carefully labelled, that are maintained by universities to identify plants and record their habitats. This ceramic series is a decorative fantasy on that theme. Painstakingly appliquéed and hand-painted, each one represents a different plant on a natural, textured terracotta plaque.
Not meant to be botanically accurate representations, the
Collection Herbier are rather works of art to be appreciated for the interpretation of the artist. Perfect as a collection, they look splendid in groups. But an individual
herbier is charming in its own right. This one represents a flowering apple branch. Apples are celebrated in many regions of France, especially in Normandy and Brittany, where they are made into sparkling cider as well as countless delicious desserts.
A limited edition, each
herbier is signed by the artist. The colors are delicate pink and white, green and brown on a natural terracotta background. The
herbier has a wire hanger affixed to its back.
