Queen of the meadow (
Filipendula ulmaria) is a sweet-smelling stalwart for the perennial border or wet meadow. Found throughout France in floodplains and riverine meadows, this stately perennial has big fragrant, fluffy white flowers held on 3-foot stems, and ornamental ferny foliage. Makes a beautiful cutflower.
Plant it in nearly any garden soil in full sun. It will need lots of moisture to germinate, but tolerates average moisture levels afterwards. Spreads slowly by rhizomes.
I've searched for a year to find the right source of French native wildflower seeds to offer you. Here they are! Certified organically grown, these seeds are produced on a family flower farm in the
Massif Central. One hundred percent of the process is artisanal, right down to the seed packets which are decorated with drawings of the content plants by the owner.
