Field greens 'Claytone de Cuba'

No photo of this yet, until I can take a picture in my own potager this spring. This unusual salad green (Montia perfoliata) is one of the most expensive produce items in Paris, if you can find it. The small, double heart-shaped leaves are succulent and sprightly tasting, as are the thin stems that bear the foliage. Sow in early spring and fall, as it does best in cool weather (it is know as "winter purslane" in France).

Known in the States as miner's lettuce, as its high vitamin A and C content helped underground workers combat rickets and scurvy. This is literally a wild green, and very much to be coveted. Cut the diminuitive plant at ground level, and don't remove stems before you dégustez, as we say here!

Our French heirloom seed is produced organically by a small seed farm in central France. Its production process is monitored by France's rigorous Ecocert program which is a standard throughout the European community. The seed ships with both an Ecocert certificate and a phytosanitary certificate.
