On the day of the festival, the town of Valensole was closed to traffic.  We had to park outside the village and walk down to the town center.  On our way, we began to notice signs of celebration.  Many houses had handmade lavender ornaments decorating their walls.  This one featured lavender and a sunflower, the two beautiful crops that make country drives through this region so breathtaking on a summer day.
